About UKDC : Introducing the UK Defence Club
The UK Defence Club's origins date back to 1869. Our founders had a common interest in protecting their businesses against exposure to the costs of commercial litigation. In the 21st century, our Members still share that interest and share a commitment to mutuality, working together for their collective benefit.
Today, the Club's success lies in continuing to be responsive to Members' needs, ensuring financial security, with proper protection in a tough commercial world. This approach has made the Club what it is today; the maritime community's leading provider of legal costs cover. It continues to grow, with a broad membership drawn from major trade types to more specialist sectors. We now have an international membership of around 2800 owned and chartered ship entries of more than 100 million GT, from some 45 countries.
We keep a sharp focus on our Members' needs by developing the scope of cover, by supporting Members in a wide range of commercial disputes and by giving Members practical advice and assistance when their own money is at stake. We stand prepared to deal with Members' problems wherever and whenever they arise.
